St Etheldredas wedding photographer: Marie-Claire and Mark

This was a very special day and a pleasure for me to photograph such a great London wedding. Three venues and all of them firm favourites of mine, plus a really smashing couple with a wonderful circle of friends.

Favourite venue number 1. The Rookery in Smithfield Market.

A stunning boutique hotel tucked away in a cobbled side-street. The Rooks Nest room is just a joy to photograph bridal preparations in. Split between 2 levels and with great light and round  porthole feature windows. The perfect choice for Marie-Claire and the girls to relax a little and prepare themselves for the day ahead.

Favourite venue number 2. St Etheldredas Catholic Church

I seem to work at St Eth’s more than any other London church. Tucked away in Ely Place, off High Holborn, it could be easily missed from the outside facade. Once you step inside it has a Tardis like feel – spacious, bathed in stained glass tinited light and oozing all the character you would expect from the oldest church in London.

The choir at St Etheldredas are amongst the finest I have ever heard. From my normal photography position at the front of the church, I can see the effect they have on people. Some close their eyes, some stare into open space, all captivated by the depth of emotion and skill of the powerful voices.

Favourite venue number 3. The Honourable Society of Grays Inn

After a wonderful service at St Etheldredas, Marie-Claire and Mark went for a short drive around London and some time on their own. The guests took the short walk along High Holborn to Grays Inn.

Steeped in law history, the main hall is just fantastic. I also like then venue for the park area that, if you catch the light right, is a great location for groups and couple wedding photography. We did just that and the light gods also played ball.

A really wonderful wedding to play a part in and a couple who have been a pleasure to meet and work with. Marie-Claire and Mark, congratulations to you both and my best wishes for a lifetime overflowing with love and happiness.

    Helen Walsh - Hi Simon,
It’s one of the bridesmaids here. I’ve got several tears in my eyes looking back on how you captured Marie-Claire as Mark’s wedding day. It’s exactley how I remember it and you captured those special expressions that make memories. I especially love the one of Marie-Claire, Mark and her mum right after the nuptials. So perfect!
