Tower of London wedding photography: Kelly and Richard.
I get to photograph weddings in some pretty spectacular surroundings. Infact, just checking my records over the years, I am now a veteran of over 300 of them. England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales have all been covered, even the channel islands. Amazing venues? St Pauls Cathedral, The Natural History Museum, many of the London hotels, Castle Howard in Yorkshire, Scottish castles, fields in Cambridgeshire, the grand, the small intimate affairs, garden receptions, they all have their own individual character and wonderful moments. However, I was absolutely made-up when Kelly and Richard asked me to be their photographer at The Tower of London. I have admired the beautiful chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula while taking my two boys around the tower for a visit. So, the chance to work there and with such a great couple was a wonderful opportunity.
The day started at Kelly’s home with hair, make-up, wonderful Canadian humour and excitement. The journey to the Tower of London was quite long and required a carefully thought out schedule to make sure I was in the right place at the right time.
I met Richard and his guests just arriving at the tower, with many excited tourists already in attendance, awaiting the grand arrival of Kelly, her dad and the girls. This was a spectacular moment, with the procession lead by one of the towers Yeoman Warders.
After the service, guests enjoyed custard tarts – a favourite of Kelly’s and champagne outside the chapel. Mother nature decided to gift us with some great late afternoon light. We took the opportunity to make the most of this and stopped for a few portraits, while everyone else strolled to The Tower Bridge Hotel.
The day was made complete with a wonderful meal, amusing and heart-felt speeches, then cake cutting complete with sparkers!…not easy to photograph without getting burnt!
It was a wonderful day, a magical wedding to photography and a pleasure to work with such a delightful couple and their guests.
